Notes:

  • Trackhouse Racing driver Daniel Suárez finished 13th in Sunday’s road course race at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International.
  • Suárez overcame losing a lap following a second stage spin after a loose tire nearly ruined his day.
  • Suárez started eighth and drove to seventh then stayed on the track and finished fourth earning seven bonus points in stage 1.
  • Suárez started 20th in the second stage, but was hit by another car on the restart dropping him to 29th. Things got worse when a loose wheel led to a spin into the gravel dropping him to 35th and down a lap. He made up the lap in the opening laps of the final stage then rallied in the final laps and overtime.
  • The Watkins Glen race marked the second of 10 playoff races. One race remains in the first round of the playoffs when four of the 16 playoff drivers will be eliminated.
  • With his 13th-place finish Sunday, Suárez is fifth of the 16 drivers with 36 points ahead of the final transfer position.
  • Four drivers will be eliminated every three races with the four remaining drivers competing in a winner-take-all Championship race at Phoenix Raceway on Nov. 8.
  • The third and final first-round race is Saturday night at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway.

Daniel Suárez, driver of the No. 99 Freeway Insurance Chevrolet Camaro for Trackhouse Racing:

“We went through a lot today. The No. 99 Freeway Insurance Chevy was pretty fast, especially on the long runs. I thought we were able to drive through the field once we had lost some track position, but it was very difficult to pass…way more difficult than what I anticipated. And then we lost a wheel, and from that, we were just trying to recover. I’m very proud of this team for not giving up; doing a good job at executing and going to fight right off the bat. Finishing 13th after being stuck in the gravel isn’t a bad day.”
