International Speedway. Suárez staged a frantic rally, driving from 19th to second with four laps remaining before finishing just 0.031 seconds short of his third career victory and an automatic playoff berth. The finish equaled a season’s best and marked his third consecutive top-10 finish. In the first stage, Suárez, who led six laps, finished 12th. All three Trackhouse Racing Chevrolets dodged a 12-car accident on lap 27 that eliminated several cars. In the second stage, Suárez raced in the top five before finishing 18th. Rain cancelled qualifying on Friday, and NASCAR set the field by the rulebook. Daytona marked the 26th and final regular season race before the 10-race, 16-driver NASCAR Cup Series playoffs that begin Sunday, Aug. 31 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway. Daniel Suárez, driver of the No. 99 Coca-Cola Zero Sugar Chevrolet Camaro for Trackhouse Racing: “We just needed one more spot. The No. 99 Coca-Cola Chevrolet team did a great job. We just probably needed to be in position a little bit earlier, but our Chevy was strong. We just lost a little bit of control in the final stage and that set us behind a little bit. The No. 12 (Ryan Blaney, race winner) was back there with us at one point. Overall, we had a good car all night, but it was just a little bit too late.”
