Superspeedway. A pre-race drive-through penalty and an early spin saw Suárez lose two laps to the leaders by lap 13. Despite a damaged car, he made up one of the laps in the second stage as the crew continued to make repairs during stops. A 22-car accident that sent the race to overtime collected Suárez and ended his bid to return to the lead lap. Despite the damage, he was able to finish the race. Sunday marked the 13th overtime finish in the 2024 season. The Talladega race marked the fifth of 10 playoff races. One race remains in the second round of the playoffs when four of the 12 playoff drivers will be eliminated. With his 26th-place finish Sunday, Suárez is 10th of the 12 drivers 20 points behind the eighth and final transfer position. Four drivers will be eliminated every three races with the four remaining drivers competing in a winner-take-all Championship race at Phoenix Raceway on Nov. 8. The third and final second-round race is Sunday on the Roval at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Daniel Suárez, driver of the No. 99 Tootsies Chevrolet Camaro for Trackhouse Racing: “It was a very difficult day for the No. 99 Tootsies Orchid Lounge Chevy team. We put ourselves in a little bit of a hole with the pass-through penalty. We had a plan and I was expecting everyone to be saving fuel, and I was going to be able to block the lanes and stay in the pack. I just made a mistake. I tried to block when they were coming, but they were just coming too fast. That was on me. We put ourselves in a hole, and unfortunately we weren’t able to recover. And then in the last wreck, obviously that finished killing our chances.”
