Races September 6, 2021 No. 99 Chevrolet Much Faster On Second Visit Date: September 5th, 2021 Event: Cook Out Southern 500 (Round 27 of 36) Series: NASCAR Cup Series Location: Darlington Raceway (1.366-mile oval) Format: 367 laps, broken into three stages (115 laps/115 laps/137 laps) Start/Finish: 26th / 13th (running, completed 367 of 367 laps) Point Standing: 24th with 465 points Notes: Daniel Suárez finished 13th in Sunday night’s Southern 500 NASCAR Cup Series race at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway. Suárez is 24th in the season standings after 27 of 36 races. Suárez started 26th and like most struggled on the egg-shaped oval finishing 24th in Stage 1 and 20th in Stage 2. Suárez and the crew worked on their car’s handling throughout the four-hour race trying to find ways to create more mechanical grip on the slippery surface. Suárez fell off the lead lap in the final stage, but a gamble to stay out and take the wave around returned Suarez to the lead lap and in 13th with 42 laps remaining. He held the position until the end of the race notching his 10th top-15 finish in 2021. It marked his second-best finish in eight races at Darlington. The No. 99 struggled to a 23rd-place finish in the 400-mile race at Darlington on May 9. The Trackhouse team made it a priority to run better in Sunday night’s 500-mile race. The Cup Series will return to action Saturday Sept. 11 at Richmond (Va.) Raceway. NBCSN will televise Sunday’s race at 7:30 p.m. EDT. Daniel Suárez, driver of the No. 99 Good Sam Chevrolet Camaro for Trackhouse Racing: “I feel like we were probably a top 20 car most of the day. We struggled. We made some adjustments to get it back and I thought we did a pretty good job keeping up with the race track and everything. But we just have to keep working. It was a good education day, but we didn’t have a lot of speed. So, we have to keep working to make more speed.”
