Notes:

  • Trackhouse Racing driver Daniel Suárez finished 18th in Sunday’s Southern 500 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway.
  • Suárez ran midpack most of the race, but as the end drew close both Trackhouse Racing Chevrolets came to the front.
  • Suárez saw his chance of a top-10 finish end in a multicar accident with 25 laps remaining as the No. 99 raced in the top-10. The team repaired the heavily damaged car and returned him to the race finishing 18th.
  • Suárez started 32nd and held off leader Kyle Larsen in both stages to stay on the lead lap before finishing 24 and 18th.
  • Darlington marked the 26th and final regular season race before the 10-race, 16-driver NASCAR Cup Series playoffs that begin Sunday, Sept. 8 with the Quaker State 400 available at Walmart at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Ga.
  • Suárez will begin the playoffs in 11th with 2,006 points, one point ahead of the final transfer position. Four of the 16 playoff drivers will be eliminated after the first three races. After three rounds the four remaining drivers will compete in a winner-take-all race for the championship at Phoenix Raceway.

Daniel Suárez, driver of the No. 99 Freeway Insurance Chevrolet Camaro for Trackhouse Racing:

“It was an up-and-down day for the No. 99 Freeway Insurance Chevy team. I thought we made the car better when the sun was out. Once the nighttime came, I thought we were actually a little bit better, and good enough to run top-15. We were already right up there in the top-10 when the cautions started coming out. It’s unfortunate, but it’s part of it. There were people staying out. There were people with new tires. It was just a little bit of a crazy situation.”
