Event: Daytona 500

Location: Daytona International Speedway (2.5-mile oval)

Format: 200 laps, broken into three stages (65 laps/65 laps/70 laps)

  • Trackhouse Racing driver Daniel Suárez finished 18th in the 64th running of the Daytona 500 Sunday at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.
  • Suárez showed early speed but employed a conservative strategy in the early going dodging all trouble.
  • He drove the Tootsie’s Chevrolet to sixth in Stage 2 before handling issues and a pit road speeding penalty dropped him two laps behind the leaders to begin the third and final stage.
  • Suárez could never make up the two laps, dodged the accidents and finished 18th.
  • The NASCAR Cup Series returns to action Sunday at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif.

Daniel Suárez, driver of the No. 99 Tootsie’s Chevrolet Camaro for Trackhouse Racing:

“Our day was O.K. We had a fast No. 99 Tootsies Orchid Lounge Chevy, we just got behind there with the speeding penalty. The No. 42 (Ty Dillon) kind of pushed me to the grass and then we had a loose wheel. It wasn’t a clean day, but we’ll move onto Auto Club (Speedway).”
