Suárez Finishes P22 in Watkins Glen

Races

One Race Remains Before the Playoffs.

Date: August 20th, 2023

Event: Go Bowling at The Glen (Round 25 of 36)

Series: NASCAR Cup Series

Location: Watkins Glen (2.45-mile road course)

Format: 90 laps, broken into three stages (20 laps/20 laps/50 laps)

Start/Finish: 14th / 22nd (completed 90 of 90 laps)

Point Standing: 18th with 547 points

Notes:

  • Trackhouse Racing driver Daniel Suárez finished 22nd in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series road course race at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International.
  • The finish drops Suárez to 18th in points, 43 points behind the 16th and final playoff spot with Saturday night’s race at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway as the only remaining regular season race. He will likely need to win the race to advance to the playoffs.
  • Suárez started 14th and moved to 10th by lap 5, but a spin at the end of the bus stop and contact with the inside wall damaged the splitter dropped him to 24th in the running order.
  • The first caution of the race fell on lap 57, seconds after Suárez made a green flag pit stop. He earned the free pass and returned to the lead lap in 28th. He climbed to 22nd in the final laps.
  • The race featured only one caution for four laps Sunday. It marked the first time since 1978 that consecutive races (Watkins Glen and last week’s race at Indianapolis) saw only one caution in each event.
  • The 1:58 hour race was the shortest race in NASCAR’s modern era that began in 1972.

Daniel Suárez, driver of the No. 99 Freeway Insurance Chevrolet Camaro for Trackhouse Racing:

“Certainly not what we wanted this afternoon. We know what we have to do in Daytona (win) and we are going there with plans to do it.”
