Suárez is 24th in the season standings after 34 of 36 races. Suárez started 16th Sunday and climbed to 11th in the opening laps. Rain stopped the race for about 20 minutes on lap 12. A mechanical problem in the back of the car forced the No. 99 to pit with 10 laps to go in Stage 1 dropping it to 31st and two laps behind the leader. The Trackhouse team improved the handling and Suárez moved to 24th and only one lap behind the leader by the end of Stage 2. Suárez returned to the lead lap after taking the wave-around with 55 laps to go then getting a timely caution. He raced as high as 12th in the closing laps. Gusty winds and 55-degree temperatures created a challenge for all of the Cup drivers on the 1.5-mile oval throughout the race. The Cup Series will return to action Sunday, Oct. 31 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway. NBC will televise Sunday’s race at 2 p.m. EDT. Daniel Suárez, driver of the No. 99 Good Sam Chevrolet Camaro for Trackhouse Racing: “We got down two laps early because of the extra pit stop and had to fight our way back. It was a tough race with the wind blowing the way it did. We had a lot going on today, but everyone worked hard and we salvaged a good finish. We aren’t satisfied and we’ll keep working.”
