Notes:

  • Trackhouse Racing driver Daniel Suárez finished third in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race on the road course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
  • The Trackhouse Chevrolets were fast, but with just three caution laps over the 82-lap race there was little chance to make adjustments or gain lost ground to the leaders.
  • Suárez led twice for six laps.
  • Suárez never raced outside the top three, finishing second and third in the first two stages to earn 17 bonus points.
  • His bid for victory ended during a final stage, green flag pit stop when an air hose caught under the tire. The No. 99 lost 10 seconds in the pits and with no caution he could not catch the leader.
  • Suárez is now 28 points outside the 16th and final playoff position with only two races at Watkins Glen and Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway left on the schedule.
  • On Saturday, Suárez won his first pole of the season, third of his career and second for Trackhouse Racing.
  • In 24 points-paying NASCAR Cup Series race this season, Chevrolet continues to lead the series in wins (12), top-fives (53), top-10s (102), stage wins (18) and laps led (2,407).
  • The Cup Series returns to action Sunday, Aug. 20 at the Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International.

Daniel Suárez, driver of the No. 99 Freeway Insurance Chevrolet Camaro for Trackhouse Racing:

“I felt like the No. 99 Freeway.com Chevy was very strong today. We just lacked a little bit of speed the first-half of the race. We made a mistake as a team during the last pit cycle, which was probably the most important one. But we will continue to build and get better. We’ll continue to build race cars like this and hopefully we’ll have another shot next week at Watkins Glen (International).

I mean, we win and we lose as a team, and that’s all I can say. The guys brought a very fast race car. I felt that maybe we were one adjustment behind in the first run with the back of the car, but then we made it a little bit better. But I felt like I was always one step behind the 9 and the 34, and then at the end, I felt that when my car came alive again, we had that issue. Just a little bit heartbreaking, but that’s part of the sport. All we can do is continue to push, continue to build race cars like this, and I’ll keep on winning races. I can’t thank everyone at Trackhouse Racing, all our sponsors, Freeway Insurance, all the people that help us to perform this way. “
