Notes:

  • Trackhouse Racing driver Daniel Suárez finished 16th in Sunday’s 400-mile NASCAR Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas.
  • Suárez led twice for 12 laps Sunday, including leading the field to the green for the green-white-checkered overtime finish. His old tires couldn’t hold off the cars with fresher tires and the field streamed by in the final two laps.
  • Suárez started 15th and struggled with handling early finishing 23rd in the first stage.
  • In the second stage Suárez took new tires and climbed to 13th.
  • Suárez took the lead on lap 222 as he stayed on the track during a pit stop cycle, stretching his fuel and hoping for a caution. He led nine laps but no caution fell and he pitted under green with 37 to go.
  • Suárez raced near 20th when the caution fell that sent the race to overtime. He stayed on the track hoping for a caution after one lap that would end the race, but the overtime stayed green and he fell to 16th.

Daniel Suárez, driver of the No. 99 Freeway Insurance Chevrolet Camaro for Trackhouse Racing:

“We tried hard today. Our Freeway.com Chevrolet started slow but we got it better and were running pretty good. At the end we just didn’t have the speed when we needed it. We played some strategy hoping to get lucky which we didn’t, but it was worth the risk.”
